day 322 || notes: over my shoulder
In the middle of reading traditional Japanese haiku and some modern versions from Richard Wright. Love the ebb and flow of the minimalism — and the sudden epiphanies in the words.
Many different theories exists for "proper" methods of generating these 3-lined, 17-syllable poems. Frankly the less formal concept I prefer: 17 syllables in any manner of lines to convey the original intentions of the tradition. The English language really does not fit the notions from 11th century Japan... although some writers arrive close to the idea.
Most writers today make the verse sound like greeting cards (shudder)....
Today my attempt:
on the table top
a dog-earred book
pages turn
slow
by unseen hands
