.: Assignment 1: Narrative
This exercise explores your writing skills and the manner you develop an essay. Since it is considered a diagnostic narrative, it will not be graded for grammar and spelling; however, it does count as a  participation grade and specific objectives need to be met. I will evaluate the essay and offer suggestions that will apply towards your other projects.
The main focus with the assignment is to show how much you know about composition writing at the beginning of the current term.

OBJECTIVES
• Length: 300-600 words

• Type double spaced / 12 pt. Times New Roman / Use template provided.

• Due Wednesday 01.21.09

• Informal, personal voice allowed.

THEME: What is your Writing Style and/or Process?
There are numerous approaches you may take with this theme:
1. Relate a personal memory of a past experience with the writing process.
2. Narrate the steps and concepts you undertake when establishing an idea.
Before beginning a project do you clear off your desk, start laundry, or grab a pint of Guinness?
3. Describe the emotional process that ties in with the creative writing process:
do you find the development of an essay frustrating? —exciting? —calming? —torturous?
Be able to give specific examples and descriptive language.
Be sure to employ the basic essay requirements:
• an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion
• clear specific topic statement
• relevant topic sentences
• body paragraphs focused on one main idea
• strong transitions
• strong ideas supported by clear evidence
• at least 5 sentences per paragraph
