Images do not necessarily need to fit the cell format exactly. The designer here strategically placed the color "scraps" to appear as if they were dropped haphazardly on the page. Over all they adhere to a modular format. Notice in this case there is not a margin established. Both text and images can bleed off edge of the design's perimeters, or run to the edge of the page for effect.
